Our Services

Mind Free Counseling offers individual, trauma-informed counseling services that include Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), and mindfulness techniques that help resolve the anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other mental health challenges that people face. These symptoms are ultimately a result of trauma and the mind’s attempts to try and cope with the trauma trapped in the body.

EMDR Therapy

What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. It’s a structured therapy developed by Francine Shapiro to help people heal from trauma and distressing experiences.

How does EMDR therapy work?

EMDR therapy brings an emotion that is stuck in the past into the present moment. When the past emotion is present, the EMDR counselor will distract the client’s mind with a variety of movements, including (but not limited to) eye movement. These distractions allow the individual to notice the experience without fully reliving it.

Why does EMDR therapy work?

When we notice the experience without our mind creating a problem out of it (because our mind is distracted, which is what often causes the issue), our body can relax and release the trauma that triggers the trauma response. No trigger = no trauma response = feeling calm or neutral.

KAP Therapy

What is KAP therapy?

KAP stands for Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy, where clients take Ketamine during a therapy session, combined with therapeutic support and integration with a counselor.

How does KAP therapy work?

The Ketamine molecule has a dissociative effect where it helps “quiet” the mind allowing a client to experience a deeper connection with their inner self.

Why does KAP therapy work?

When we can experience our inner self fully without the mind interfering, we can experience an “oceanic” feeling of love and compassion for ourselves, which is at the root of all healing. We connect with the source of healing and discover that we are more than just okay.

If you are thinking about KAP services, I encourage you to do extensive research on the different ways you can inject or ingest Ketamine, the types of environments you might experience, and the therapeutic support. These factors can dramatically impact the long-term results, and to better understand the pros and cons feel free to book a free consultation or learn more about the pros and cons of KAP!

Mindfulness Therapy

What is Mindfulness therapy?

Mindfulness therapy is made up of mindfulness techniques that are incorporated into EMDR and KAP therapy to help our mind surrender control so we can become present and notice the experience without holding onto the trauma.

How does Mindfulness therapy work?

All mindfulness techniques are designed to bring your awareness into the body while encouraging the mind to surrender control. When this happens, we are utilizing the limbic (also known as the Noticing) part of our brain.

Why does Mindfulness therapy work?

When we activate the limbic part of our brain, our mind is dormant, and when our mind is dormant, we can feel the experience without turning it into a problem. Mindfulness, when incorporated with EMDR and KAP therapy, helps us stay in the body so it can release the trauma and allow the natural healing process to finish to completion, dissolving the trauma trigger.
