I focused my training on cutting-edge trauma-informed therapies because of my own experience. I too, struggled with anxiety and depression symptoms, and finally faced the reality that I needed help (which was not easy) and sought counseling. Like many people, I started with more traditional talk therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Psychoanalysis, where my therapist tried to help me fix my “thinking” to resolve my symptoms. And it worked…until it didn’t.
After each session, I would feel better until something happened that made me “feel” something similar to what I felt before (often when I was little), and the anxiety and depression soon followed. I realized that therapy could change how I felt in the moment, but it would not keep the symptoms from coming back.
I knew there had to be a better solution, and in my search for a better way, I found EMDR therapy. Instead of just talking about what was wrong, for the first time, I sat with the feeling without my mind turning it into a problem. As I stayed with the emotion with curiosity and compassion, the feeling subsided. Even better, the next time something happened that in the past would trigger my anxiety or depression…didn’t! I was able to remain calm and respond to the situation with kindness and compassion.
This revelation is why I chose to be an EMDR and KAP therapist, because these therapies are bottom-up therapies that address the root of the problem. I realized firsthand, how critical it was to address the trauma and the techniques needed to help people free themselves from their minds so they no longer have to feel stuck in life like I did once.

About Mind Free Counseling…
The goal of Mind Free Counseling is to help people free their minds from the “thinking problem” that causes them to feel stuck in life.
We all have within ourselves the cure…but the mind keeps us away from accessing it with its obsessive thinking. The more we suffer, the more our mind obsesses over the suffering, which only keeps the cure out of our grasp. We cannot “think” our way to a solution. That would be like a fire chief saying they’ll find the arsonist when the fire chief is the arsonist.
This is why Mind Free Counseling focuses on bottom-up therapies like EMDR and KAP to help people go beyond the mind and experience the solution from within. When we use top-down methods that focus on trying to fix our “thinking” it might provide temporary relief, but ultimately only prevents us from feeling our way (not thinking our way) through the trauma so our body can process the trauma properly.
